About Our School
Established in 1986 The Sylvia Goff Centre found its home at Prospect House, Leyland and has never looked back. Tucked away in the narrows streets around Sandy Lane, Prospect House boasts some of Leyland’s best facilities, and we take full advantage. We have 2 studios, the first being upstairs in the main house with fitted barres and purpose installed sprung flooring to protect joints from damage, and the second being the downstairs full size ballroom, again with fitted barres, sprung floor and wall mirrors. We also boast a good sized stage, 2 available changing rooms, a small kitchen and tuck shop and space for parents to get away from the hustle and bustle of children.
Maintaining the name of it’s founder The Sylvia Goff Centre is now run by Miss Vikki Emberton who has trained at the SGC since 1986 and has been a member of the teaching staff since 1994. Our other teachers have all been raised at the school and continue to maintain our ethos, which has always been to provide affordable dance training to everyone who wants to learn. We also strive to be fully inclusive and take pride in all our students’ achievements, especially those who face their own challenges in life.
Following the British Theatre Dance Association programmes we offer recognised QCF qualifications in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz and Lyrical, leading to Vocational examinations in Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz which award UCAS points. Most students follow the examination process in order to advance through the grades, however this is not always suitable for everyone and some people choose just to ‘join in with classes, especially our older members.
Since its foundation the SGC has gone through many challenges and we look forward to facing any new challenges the future brings.
